We have two sessions this month.
1. Database Mirroring
So with the recent release of SQL Server 2005 SP1 we get the highly anticipated database mirroring functionality. Database mirroring transfers transaction log records directly from one server to another and can quickly fail over to the standby server.
Mark Fitzpatrick will guide us through the configuration process and share with us a few of the catcha's.
2. Standard Backup Process
The first role of a DBA is to protect the database i.e. backup! SQL Server 2005 offers some significant opportunities in this space.
In this session Geoff will build on a standard backup process and examine how to reduce the backup window by using read only file groups and partitioned tables and how to bring part of our database online.
