SQL Server 2000 Query Analysis and Optimization
Author: Victor Isakov Date Posted: 17/03/2005 12:08:56 PM
In April Victor Isakov (MCT, MCSE, MCDBA) will focus on analysing and optimizing query performance on SQL Server 2000.

Session 1:
This session will look at the optimizer in more detail and the various components of the query plan. The various tools available. The different join types will be discussed. It will conclude with when you should consider over-riding the Optimiser and the various hints available.

Session 2:
Indexing is just as important, as the optimizer ultimately looks at available indexes to generate it's QPs. This session will focus more on index design and trade-offs for optimal T-SQL execution. When should you use composite indexes? What are the implications of columns ordering and data types? What are best practises for covering indexes?

Presenter:
Victor Isakov (sql@informare.com.au) has been involved with SQL Server since Version 4.21a, enjoying a reputation as one of the best "SQL Gurus" in Australia. He has been an MCT since 1995 and consulted for organisations like the University of NSW, DET (NSW), BT Financial Group, Westpac and the UN. He specialises as a consultant in Architecting, Optimising and Troubleshooting Database Solutions.
