It’s been quite a while since the first SQL databases were moved to the cloud and many new, interesting, important and exciting changes have been made since Microsoft first articulated their vision. Microsoft investment into the cloud is simply mind-boggling.
The cloud has matured and we have passed the point at which we were asking “Should we consider the cloud?”, and now the questions are more in line with “Is the cloud suitable for all or just some of our databases?”, “Should we perhaps consider a hybrid approach?”, “Which cloud platform(s) to use?” and finally “How do we painlessly move our databases to the cloud?”
In this presentation we will try to answer some of the questions by demonstrating capabilities, advantages and limitations of different tactics for hosting SQL databases in the cloud and will discuss some important lessons learned from the real-world SQL Server migrations projects.
