Future Proofing the DBA - Making Automation Work for You - Joey D'Antoni & Karen Lopez
Author: Darren Gosbell Date Posted: 8/22/2017 2:13:22 PM
Once upon a time, your success as a Database Administrator required only that you develop expertise in SQL Server installation strategies, backup and restore operations, and perhaps performance tuning. However, now that the modern IT landscape includes technologies such as cloud computing and server virtualization, your continued success requires you to adapt and expand your skills. It is increasingly important to develop a broad understanding of modern application stacks before you can facilitate an intelligence system design to support your data management requirements.

DevOps and Continuous Integration demand high levels of automation throughout a database development process. In response, Microsoft has embedded automation into everything, including Azure services and SQL Server 2017.

In many shops today, traditional automation and scripting remain a largely reactive task. While being responsive and responsible are admirable qualities for any professional, the future of automation for DBAs must have an element of proactivity.

In this session, we'll look at the ways a modern professional DBA must be automating their job in order to keep their job.

Topics discussed will include:

- High availability and disaster recovery
- Performance tuning and monitoring
- Data security, privacy, and compliance
- Cloud and Cloud Automation
- Standardizing installation, configuration, and inventory
