Introduction to SQL Server Data Mining
Author: Greg Linwood Date Posted: 15/06/2006 12:19:15 PM
Ever thought Data Mining was too difficult? Not understandable? Something for people in ivory towers? Think again. SQL Server 2005 has a host of new features to enable data mining to be embedded into the normal course of your analytics. It’s surprising how much insight can be gained from your data with a few very simple procedures to invoke a data mining algorithm – delivering your organisation new ideas and information in the process. This session introduces the basic concepts of data mining, including the types of algorithms supported by SQL Server. We’ll then investigate how SQL Server embeds data mining in applications (analytic and other) and see a new data mining algorithm be built from the ground up – arming you to do the same back at the office.

Nick Ward is the SQL Server Technology Specialist for Microsoft based in Melbourne. His role is to help organisations understand the value of SQL Server as a component of their business solutions.
