PSSUG: The optimizer, statistics and indexes by Grant Fritchey
Author: Brian H. Madsen Date Posted: 2/6/2011 11:10:50 PM
The Perth SQL Server User Group is pleased to present a virtual presentation, by Grant Fritchey, for the month of February.

Due to the lack of local speakers we have decided to run a range of virtual sessions seeing as there are so many international speakers that are keen to present.

Session Details:
This session will introduce the query optimizer. Discussion will center around how the optimizer works to create execution plans. You'll get an understanding of how execution plans are used by the query engine to retrieve data. We'll explore the importance of statistics to the optimizer and how indexes affect the choices the optimizer makes.

About Grant Fritchey:
I have 20+ years experience in IT including time spent in support and development. I have been working with SQL Server since 6.0 back in 1995.

I have developed in VB, VB.Net, C# and Java. I volunteer at PASS. I'm the serving president of the Southern New England SQL Server Users Group (SNESSUG). I was awarded as a Microsoft SQL Server MVP in 2009 and 2010. I work as the Product Evangelist for Red Gate Software.
