In this last user group meeting for the year, one of our group members, Michael Keane, will go through some common misconceptions about SQL Server and impart some tips to improve your SQL Server environment. He will also share some war stories and lessons learnt when designing, implementing and maintaining a SQL Server platform. We will also discuss how a DBA can become more involved with setting the direction of SQL Server at their business.
We have a special give away prize this month for one very lucky attendee. While I was at SQL PASS in October, I purchased a copy of the new SQL Server MVP Deep Dives Volume 2. As an extra special bonus with this book, I had it signed by nearly 40 of the MVP authors, making this a very collectable book indeed.
Please arrive for the meeting before 17:00 as the Microsoft Offices doors automatically lock at that time.
Michael Keane is a Senior Consultant for Microsoft, who specialises in SQL Server. Before joining Microsoft he worked as a SQL DBA in a range of environments from small businesses to large data centres. Along the way he has picked up a number of scars and lessons learnt when dealing with SQL Server. Over his 10+ year's working with SQL Server, he has enjoyed observing the products evolution from a basic database platform into the enterprise capable platform it is today.
